Last night was the most painful migraine I had in my life and I do not exaggerate on this one. It was excruciating and the first of its kind. I think I can fairly discern what kind of headaches occur when they do. Here are the kinds that I have experienced:
- Regular Migraine – a painful, throbbing sensation that occurs regularly at my temple. This hurts big time and usually results to my absence from work or postponement of any engagement;
- Headache due to High Blood Pressure – Yes, at 24, I have a high blood pressure that usually shoots up whenever I take in excessive fatty foods and rice, and extreme heat. This one is like a silent killer. It creeps from my spine up to my nape until my head feels heavy and drifting. I usually leave it alone to subside or in extreme cases, I take in Metoprolol to suppress everything;
- Over/Undersleep Migraine – We all know this one. That familiar groggy feeling that when you wake up from the wrong side of the bed, usually lasts the whole day. In my case, makes me unfocused and blank. Totally. But all it needs is some eating or sleeping then it’s usually gone in a jiff;
- Photosensitivity – Another fact, I am photosensitive. Reason why I, most of the time, don eyewear in the morning. It’s that blinding feeling that is accompanied by a surge of painful jolts to my temple and the top of my head. It’s basic science but hurts every time; and the last but definitely the killer:
- Last Night’s Migraine – It started three days ago on a regular morning and without a clue, inched its way to be very distracting and painful until its climax peaked up last night. I know for a fact that it was not due to high blood pressure because I do not feel any pressure on my nape nor at the cerebellum side of my head. What I felt was a fast throbbing of veins in my right temple that felt like it was somehow connected to my jaw and heightens when I deliberately grind my teeth together. I avoided fatty foods and tried my best not to smoke and by the time I got home, it surrounded my whole head impaling me from going out to grab dinner.
The feeling was intense that when I tried to sleep on it and woke up 3am, it was still there. THAT intense. Waking up 7am did not do anything but the same feeling of two mallets hammering my head altogether. Ugh. It still hurts a bit until now but I am taking it easy until it fully subsides.
Maybe I should change my name to Migraine Boy instead. Or better yet, that should be me starring on the real-life movie version of the cartoon strip.
